Winning ways of Sports Source Asia image

Sport Source Asia raced away to a brilliant start with its first edition in 2007. Around 6,500 buyers came to Asia¡¦s first trade sourcing show for sporting goods, equipment and apparel, over half of them from outside Hong Kong. These buyers represented a comprehensive portfolio of quality sourcing professionals from 90 countries and regions.

Buyer response left no room for doubt as to the success of the inaugural event. ¡§No. 1 show in Asia!¡¨ enthused Manfred Karpf, General Manager of Germany¡¦s Ksport Karpf. ¡§I have been participating in exhibitions for over 30 years and this is the best show I have been to in Asia.¡¨

As well as creating the region¡¦s premier sourcing hub for the sports industry, the fair¡¦s environment was ideal for promoting business contacts for licensing, franchising or other corporate deals. With a full and fascinating programme of social and knowledge events, Sports Source Asia is now established as a well-rounded trade fair.

"Buyer response left no room for doubt as to the success of the inaugural event. No.1 show in Asia!"

Right on target

At the 2007 fair, 300 exhibitors were grouped in five themed zones - Sportswear, Sports Equipment, Sports Shoes, Sports Accessories, Fabrics & Materials ¡V to cater for the industry¡¦s specific sourcing needs. Buyers appreciated the ease with which they could identify potential suppliers. ¡§The hall was well planned for visitors to easily locate products of interest,¡¨ said Paul Earle, Pearl Sports of Australia. ¡§Sports Source Asia has provided me with an opportunity to meet with some new suppliers.¡¨

Sports Arena

The sports sector is in a period of dynamic growth which shows no sign of slowing down. Asia has been the manufacturing centre for sporting goods and leisure wear but it is now also one of the biggest markets for such products as all kinds of sporting and fitness activities are growing more popular by the day.

Economic prosperity, greater health consciousness and more leisure time have created the perfect conditions for the industry to grow. Events such as the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing; the 2009 East Asian Games in Hong Kong and the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou will fuel interest even more.

Sanjiv Mahbubani, Director, Global Marketing, was very pleased with that result and with other benefits. ¡§Exhibiting at Sports Source Asia has served us well for our brand exposure, as well as the chance to do some relationship-building with our prospects.¡¨

For Imran Saeed Malik, Director Sales for Newlife Industries of Pakistan, enquiries came from the Chinese mainland, Korea, Germany, Norway and other parts of the world as well as from brand owners' sourcing offices in Hong Kong. ¡§I am satisfied with the result and I will participate in the show again next year."

Alex Hsu, Sales Supervisor of Hong Kee Industrial Co Ltd, Taiwan, said: "The buyers matched perfectly with our products. The events organised in conjunction with the fair, such as the seminars, were great." Graham Mak, General Manager, Dart International Garment Limited (Hong Kong) also enjoyed the professionally organised events but , most importantly, noted: ¡§The show has generated excellent sales leads for us.¡¨

Hong Kong - the right place at the right time

"Hong Kong is a good location for this kind of sporting goods event due to its proximity to many manufacturing plants nearby, escpecially Chinese mainland . It is convenient for us to travel to Hong Kong on our way to meet with some manufacturing partners in the region. Great job!" said Teemu Selvenius, Product Manager of Truebell Plc (Finland).

As one of the world¡¦s leading trade fair destinations, as well as a global trading hub, Hong Kong has every supporting facility to make it the ideal location for Sports Source Asia. Its own sporting goods export industry is vibrant, with exports of US$5.5 billion in 2006. Added to this is Hong Kong¡¦s unique position in relation to the Chinese mainland, not only a major sporting goods exporter, but also an up-and-coming - and vast - market itself.

Sports Source Asia takes place at the prime sourcing period in the Pearl River Delta area, with many international buyers coming to the region looking for goods and services.
